Dear Fay,
We have a dedicated webpage giving various options for teacher training-
https://ciforschools.wordpress.com/teacher-training/mandarin-chinese-pgce/
The PGCE at UCL IOE is, as far as I'm aware, the only one to offer specific Mandarin input (Secondary MFL, not Primary), with a dedicated group of trainee teachers who are all Mandarin specialists.
One route you could look into is Schools Direct, which you can find out more about here: https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/explore-my-options?emooption=1
if you followed that route, for example, with UCL IOE, you can stay based in a school in the South West, although it would require you to travel to London several times throughout the year (mostly in the first term as I understand it).
Otherwise, especially if you have other languages, you might wish to look into teacher training places closer to home (e.g. Bath Spa or Bristol)- but they don't currently have Mandarin specific input (to my knowledge).
I hope that helps,
Best Wishes,
Philippa

Subject: Chinese teaching qualification
Dear All
Can anyone advise me on courses in which I can gain a teaching qualification which are either in the south west of England or on a par time basis?
I live in Cornwall and have a degree in Chinese and MA in Tranlsation, and I know there is a lack of Chinese teachers down here. I am thinking of qualifying to teach either in secondary or primary schools but haven't found anywhere I can gain a qualification either by distance learning or down here!
Can anyone advise me?
Many thanks
Fay
