Dear Colleagues
If you are of a mobile disposition, do consider submitting an abstract to session P6, at this year's European Mineralogical Conference to be held on 11-15 September 2016 in Rimini, Italy.
Session P6: Element and isotope transport in the lithosphere. The keynote speaker will be Jörg Hermann, Universität Bern
Mass transport in the lithosphere is kinetically controlled, operating over length and timescales, ranging from nanometers to kilometers and seconds to billions of years. Fluid flow, immiscibility, diffusion and mineral breakdown and growth are the major processes of mass transfer; evidence for them is preserved through mineralogical and geochemical signatures on many scales. A quantitative knowledge of mechanisms, rates, and controlling parameters is crucial to interpret this record and to understand the links between chemical and physical processes in the lithosphere. The session embraces all aspects of mass transport in the lithosphere including theoretical studies on the atomic scale, experimental work and examples from the field. It also explores factors controlling transport properties and the application of transport studies in pure and applied Earth Sciences.
The abstract and early registration deadline is 9 May 2016.
