Position Summary:

The College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry is leading the effort to understand, diagnose, treat, and prevent psychiatric disorders, prepare future clinicians, provide state-of-the-art care, and give direction to community efforts to improve behavioral health.

William “Scott” Killgore, PhD, is a Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience that joined the University of Arizona July 1, 2014. He brings an active research program from Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital, including his Social, Cognitive, and Affective Neuroscience Laboratory. The Lab is devoted to the study of depression, anxiety and related conditions. Dr. Killgore’s innovative work is funded by the Department of Defense, and recent research focuses on effects of prolonged sleep deprivation, chronic sleep restriction, and the use of stimulant countermeasures on the cognitive-affective systems within the brain.

As lab members, the Research Technicians will utilize methodologies (e.g., fMRI, DTI, MRS, EEG) to study the emotional and cognitive processing in both healthy and psychiatric populations, including topics such as emotional intelligence, sleep deprivation, major depression, PTSD, and mTBI.
The Research Technicians will work independently and under general supervision from a Manager or Principal Investigator to provide support to clinical research studies. They may be responsible for the following activities: Making independent judgment of suitability of potential participants for clinical trials, developing and implementing patient recruitment strategies, recommending changes to research protocols, writing sections of research protocols and reports, administering and scoring psychological tests, collecting behavioral data during neuroimaging scans, data entry and data management.

The positions may need to be available for on-call duties, overnight sleep deprivation study shifts, occasional weekend shifts, and/or have some flexibility in schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities:
-Coordinate the implementation, both internally and externally, of sponsored clinical research studies.
-Initiate and maintain contact with study participants. Responsible for screening applicants, ensuring they meet appropriate criteria, and make  
 independent judgment as to the suitability of their participation.
-Administer and score psychological and neurocognitive tests under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
-Collect computerized behavioral data from research participants during neuroimaging scans.
-Analysis of neuroimaging data 
-Experience with a variety of imaging data types (MRI, fMRI, DTI, MRS, etc.)
-Experience programming in UNIX, MATLAB, Python, etc. preferred
-Experience with parallel computing is a plus
-Experience using SPM, FSL, and related imaging software 
-Interest in utilizing novel high direction diffusion sequences and multiband sequences
-Work in concert with the Principal Investigator and/or Research Manager, develop and implement patient recruitment strategies.
-Develop, organize, and/or maintain the study database; Responsible for data entry, validation, and quality control of behavioral and neuroimaging      data. May conduct basic data processing and statistical analysis of quantitative and/or brain imaging data.
-In conjunction with Principal Investigator/Research Manager, develop, write, and implement new research protocols including design, data         collection systems and institutional review board approval (IRB).
-Recommend changes to research protocols.
-Perform literature searches as appropriate.
-Assist PI or Research Manager with preparation for presentation and written published articles.
-Responsible for training and orienting new staff.
-Perform all other duties as assigned.
