Subject: RE: Caribbean Studies

Thanks very much, it would be great if you could forward it around your Caribbean Studies contacts. However, I have already had one of these geography-related chapters reviewed and as it’s a multi-disciplinary subject with a number of different chapters to review I’m no longer narrowing my search to geographers. I’m therefore pasting below a slightly revised version of my email which is less subject specific. I would be very grateful if you could circulate this.

With thanks in advance and best wishes,
Lucy

I am writing from Collins Publishers as I’m developing a revision guide for students taking the CAPE Caribbean Studies exam. I am currently looking for experts in Caribbean history, geography, culture and society who may be able to help with the reviewing process of some of the chapters and I wondered whether this may be of interest, either to you or to any of your colleagues or students.

To give a bit of background, the main content of this book is currently being written by local authors, who are both teachers and CAPE examiners. However, every manuscript needs to go through thorough editing and review stages and I am therefore looking for experts in the subject who might be able to help as reviewers. Being a multi-disciplinary syllabus - covering history, geography, development economics and cultural aspects of the Caribbean - I will probably need different reviewers for different sections, but this does mean that the time commitment for each chapter wouldn’t be too onerous; probably a few hours’ work for each chapter.

If this may be of interest, I can of course send a list of the topics that we’re covering so that you can see whether there are any which would fit with your expertise, and I can also give you a clearer idea of the brief.

I would really appreciate any help you could give with this.

With kind regards,

Lucy

Dear Lucy Cooper,

I'm sorry it's taken a while to get back to you - I've been away. I couldn't take this on for you I'm afraid, but I'm happy to forward it around our Caribbean Studies email lists, then people might be able to contact you?

All the best,

Pat

Dear Dr Noxolo,

I am writing from Collins Publishers as I’m developing a revision guide for students taking the CAPE Caribbean Studies exam. I’ve been given your name by Dr Kate Quinn as I’m urgently looking for experts in Caribbean geography and development issues who may be able to help with the reviewing process of some of the chapters and I wondered whether this may be of interest, either to you or to any of your colleagues or students.

To give a bit of background, the main content of this book is currently being written by local authors, who are both teachers and CAPE examiners. However, every manuscript needs to go through thorough editing and review stages and I am therefore looking for experts in the subject who might be able to help as reviewers. It’s a multi-disciplinary syllabus - covering history, geography, economics and cultural aspects of the Caribbean - so I will probably need different reviewers for different sections, but this does mean that the time commitment for each chapter wouldn’t be too onerous; probably a few hours’ work for each chapter.

I currently have two sections almost ready for review which I believe would be in your area of expertise – ‘Concepts and Indicators of Development’ and ‘Factors that promote/hinder development’. I’m also expecting the chapters on ‘Globalisation’ and ‘The Impact of Geographical Phenomena’ to be ready soon, and there are chapters covering other subject areas that will also need review. If you yourself aren’t able to take this on, if you have any colleagues or contacts who you think might be interested in this work, I would be most grateful if you could send me their contact details. I would be happy to give you/them further information about what is required and discuss how you/they may want to be involved. The work would, of course, be remunerated and the reviewer would be credited as a reviewer in the book.

I would really appreciate any help you could give with this, or if you had any suggestions of where else I might find experts in Caribbean geography and development issues.

With kind regards,

Lucy
