Rebecca
Ignore my previous reply - having read your query properly, I can see that it's not that Turnitin issue. And in fact I can replicate what you describe.
I've attached a file via the Quick Comments route.
Going back as an Instructor
* if I click on Quick Comments again, in the Feedback to Learner box I see a link to the attached file - and it works.
* if I go to Attempt, in the Comments field I see this code
<p><a alt="" target="_blank" href="@[log in to unmask]@[log in to unmask]">Turnitin Assignments by Group.pdf</a> </p>
- and there's no way of opening the attached file.
As a student
* click on speech bubble and the file can be opened
* click on name of assignment, I see a link to the attached file under Comments, but clicking on it gives
Not Found
The specified resource was not found or you do not have permission to access it.
- and the URL is [log in to unmask]@[log in to unmask]" target="_blank">https://www.bb.reading.ac.uk/webapps/turn-plgnhndl-bb_bb60/links/@[log in to unmask]@[log in to unmask]
I have to say, that seems more like a Blackboard issue than a Turnitin issue.
Except that if you do the same thing with a Blackboard Assignment
a) it works rather differently
b) it works!
- for both instructor and student, and regardless of which route they take to open the file
all the best
Andy

Subject: Issue with feedback files attached via Quick Comment feature in grade centre
Hi everyone, a Friday conundrum for you... has anyone seen this issue before?
One of our instructor has created .pdf and .docx files with feedback for students on Turnitin submissions. To upload the files to the grade centre he used the Quick Comment option, opened the Text Editor and used the Insert File option under Feedback to Learner.
This produces an error both from an Instructor perspective and for a student. When an instructor opens the student's Attempt via the grade centre, the file is not visible as an attachment in the Feedback to user section, and the comment text box just displays a string of embed code. The file cannot be opened by copying this into a browser, and the file is not found in the Files area of the course either. When a student goes to My Grades and clicks on the name of the Turnitin assignment, they can see that a feedback file is attached, but when they click to download it a File Not Found error is generated.
It is possible for the instructor to access the file if they reopen Quick Comment, and for the student to open the file if they click on the speech bubble icon in My Grades.
The work around is obviously for the instructor to upload the file via Feedback to User in the Attempt instead, but this doesn't resolve the issue for anyone who isn't aware of that. I've submitted a ticket to Blackboard, but their response is that it's an issue with Turnitin's building block. From my perspective it appears to be a grade centre issue since nothing's actually going into the Turnitin interface. That said, I've done some other testing and the Quick Comment function only seems to be available on grade centre columns that are for Turnitin assignments. Has anyone else come across this, and what advice do you give to colleagues? Are there other assessment types that I've missed in testing, where the grade centre column includes the Quick Comment function?
Thanks in advance for any input
