Please join us for the first in our Latin American Ethnographic Film Series where you will have the opportunity to meet the filmmaker and ask questions.
Next Wednesday 13th April 2016 we will be showing two films related in different ways to the 1973 coup in Chile. It will be held at Senate House, Room G37 and starts at 5:30pm. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Marianne Hougen-Moraga.
Promise - 29 minutes
Spanish and Danish with English subtitles
SYNOPSIS: Filmmaker Marianne, documents her mother's search for her long lost sister in Brazil. Marianne's mother is a Chilean exile who got most of her family spread around the world after Pinochet's coup in 1973. Through the heart-breaking story of the sister's destiny, an intimate portrait is created. And as the story unfolds, Marianne questions the importance of belonging, family and death from a personal, both witty and serious, perspective.
Little Revolution - 21 minutes
Spanish and Danish with English subtitles
SYNOPSIS: Juan Ramon's dream is almost fulfilled. He failed in the big revolution against the dictatorship in Chile, but now he changes the world from his garden. The only problem is his loved ones. They want his attention and that stresses him out. Filmmaker Marianne meets her uncle struggling between family and big ideals. Little Revolution is a small, intimate film about idealism, family and belonging.
