We would like to inform you about a very exciting and timely conference on the 'Health Needs of Those from Forced Migrant Groups' which is being held at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, on the 27th of May 2016 from 9.00-16.00.
This interdisciplinary conference will bring together an array of experts to explore how to best care for patients who have been forced to flee war and persecution or who have been trafficked to the UK.
Key Note Speakers include:
Maurice Wren - Chief Executive, The Refugee Council
Alex Fraser - Head of Refugee Support, British Red Cross
Dr Angela Burnett - Lead Doctor, London Centre, Freedom from Torture
Andrew Keefe - Director of National Clinical Services, Freedom from Torture
Gervais Koulougou-Mambs - British Red Cross, Norwich
Mary Raphaely – Room to Heal and The Grange
A Panel of ‘Experts by Experience’ – From Across the Globe
We also have an incredible line-up of workshops allowing delegates to explore areas that are of particular relevance to their field of interest. Workshop leaders include - amongst others - Professor Cornelius Katona, Medical Director of the Helen Bamber Foundation, Dr Sian Oram, Lecturer in Women’s Mental Health at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, Rosalind Bragg, Director of Maternity Action and Dr Frank Arnold, Medact.
Worldwide displacement is at the highest level ever recorded. Individuals who have been forcibly displaced are repeatedly reported to be vulnerable to multiple health needs, but research suggest that such individuals often find it particularly challenging to access appropriate healthcare. Delegates will leave with a deeper understanding around the health needs and vulnerabilities of those from forced migrant groups and with ideas about how to support such individuals to recognise and build their own resilience.
The cost of a place at the conference is £120.00. To book your place online please visit our website: www.uea.ac.uk/medicine-health-sciences/continuing-professional-development/mhc or for further information please call 01603 597 199 or email [log in to unmask]
