Dear Ben, many thanks for your mail! I have obviously not had the time to watch each film in this list, but I have tried to retrieve some production details about them in recognition of the work and people behind every film. As a matter of fact, I couldn't find any such information about the UNU videos (says nothing about this on the UNU web page, for example), so your explanation is much appreciated.

Thank you & Best wishes to all //Susann

Ämne: Gratitude for compilation of disaster films and videos!

Thanks so very much for the excellent compilation, Susann, and thanks to all those who responded to Susann's query.

In the spirit of RADIX, I also want to thank Ilan for providing a link to the archive that has the four videos made around 2000 as more practical and popular fruits of the United Nations University research programme on 'the Geography of Urban Social Vulnerability'. I coordinated this research effort and worked with Greg Berger behind the camera in LA and Mexico City; while both Greg and I advised the film team in Mumbai and Manila. I write, 'in the spirit of RADIX' because we tried in that research project and, indeed, in the videos, to capture root ('radix') causes of vulnerability. The videos are now 'old' (time accelerating relativistically as capitalism approaches 'the end days') but are still useful for catalysing class room and street corner conversations about how business-as-usual social, economic and political relations are creating and redistributing risk.

Here is the location of the videos once more: http://archive.unu.edu/env/urban/social-vulnerability/index.htm.

All the best, BEN
