I think many DAM implementations in large collecting organisations (and probably most implementations are in large-ish organisations?) integrate a DAM / MAM system with an existing collections management system.
In those cases, I suspect the controlled vocabularies might be controlled from the CMS.
That's certainly the case at the BFI: our Adlib Film / Museum / Archive / Library system is where we define our metadata standards and controls, and we share metadata via API posts to our MAM. The MAM is a slave to the CMS master.
Maybe we're anomalous because we treat our digital preservation outcomes as collection assets in their own right, with full catalogue records in our CMS.
Or maybe it's technical metadata vocabularies or preservation standards you're after, eg file formats, provenance tracking? If so, try PREMIS or METS. And if it's a digital preservation conceptual framework, try OAIS?
