We have been looking at this. We have moved away from faxes as much as
possible .
From the sender end there does not appear to be a way of flagging a document
as urgent. The best way is for the sender of the EDN to ring the surgery and
advise that the document emailed through to docman is urgent and mark for
attention of duty dr etc Docman files documents in the notes but they
simultaneously go to an inbox of the GP concerned. Its then up to the GP to
action them.
You can of course fax to an email address including the generic surgery
docman email address.
So an urgency flag would be welcome as would universal adoption of RCP EDN
standards and nothing longer than two pages A4 with actions in first line
please
Kind Regards

Subject: Docman
Hi people,
Just want to pick brains. I am looking at how urgent messages are dealt with
in practices. Fax machines are being replaced by electronic messages and I
realise I do not understand how Docman handles this.
I have hardly ever used it and don't understand the ways practices handle
what used to be faxes. Are urgent messages flagged up in some way? Are they
linked directly to the patient record? How do you make sure nothing is
missed? Do all incoming messages have to be actioned by a doctor
(edischarges, opd Rx requests etc) and how are they prioritized?
Thoughts on usability and how it could be enhanced also welcome.
I realise that this is possibly using the list in relation to my consultancy
work but bear with me, I have run this list for free for nearly
15 years.
