The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) is recruiting a PhD student to work on the DFG-funded project “Non-linear Engel curves and income dependence”. The project aims to disentangle heterogeneity in living standards employing semi- and nonparametric methods for estimating equivalence scales. After the project has finished the successful candidate will work as a member of the Laboratory of Population Health.
The successful candidate will have strong quantitative skills, both theoretical and applied, and a background (master's or equivalent graduate degree) in economics, sociology, or a related field. Knowledge of the statistical package R is an advantage.
The position is for 3 years, of which the first year will be devoted to the DFG-funded project. The starting date is flexible. The successful candidate will receive a Support Contract which is based on the Collective Wage Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD Bund) in terms of the level of remuneration (EG13/50%). The Support Contract establishes an employment relationship under social insurance law and is subject to tax liability.
