The mobilities turn in social science has precipitated ‘new’ methods of sociological enquiry on what it is to be mobile. One of the consequences of this has been researchers becoming increasingly mobile with their subjects over the last decade.

The focus of this workshop is to assess the contributions and limitations of mobile methods to studying different aspects of the cycling experience. This is an opportunity for researchers to come together and critically reflect on what has been achieved, what remains elusive or out of reach, and what might be done differently in the future as the landscape of velomobility shifts.

We are particularly interested to include papers/presentations that engage and involve the audience in actually doing velomobile methods. The aim is to provide the opportunity to experience first-hand the different approaches being used to investigate, interrogate and interpret the velomobile experience among different users and to generate critical reflection on epistemological considerations and practical challenges of this field of inquiry.

It is requested that participants bring their own research equipment and bicycles although a limited number of bicycles will be available upon request. The workshop is free and lunch and refreshments will be provided.
