Dear MCG

For people interested in museum and university partnerships/collaborations I thought I should highlight two free events from projects I am currently working with . One is the MUPI event on the 22nd March facilitated by NCCPE (http://www.publicengagement.ac.uk/events/mupi-partnerships-practice) ; the other is the Share Academy: Future of Collaboration event on the 11th April (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-future-of-collaboration-ii-tickets-20940869705) . They’re on similar themes but with quite different content and speakers – you might want to check out both.

Kind Regards

Paddy

MUPI – Partnership in Practice

Tuesday, March 22, 2016

10:30am to 4:00pm

Are you interested in the potential of museum university partnerships? If so we encourage you to join us at the 'MUPI Partnerships in Practice' event on the 22 March at Woburn House, London.

The past ten years have seen profound changes in how universities engage with the public. Driven by increasing pressures to deliver 'impactful' research and high quality student experience, museums and art galleries have emerged as natural partners for universities seeking to reach non-academic audiences for their research and engagement activities. Museums too have been seeking to enhance their research capability and to improve their interpretation of collections; to develop new audiences, and to meet the challenges of the current economic climate and decreasing public subsidy. This has encouraged them to seek new partnerships to enhance their work and build their resilience.

With funding from Arts Council England, the MUPI project has provided an opportunity to explore the dynamics of museum university partnerships. The event will be an opportunity to:
Find out what we have learnt from our research (including in-depth analysis of REF case studies, a literature review, survey and interviews); our pilot sandpits; and our work with funders.
Reflect on how the system supports small and medium museums to develop mutually beneficial partnerships with universities
Improve the potential for effective museum university partnerships in the future
This event is for people interested in the value of museum university partnerships; museum staff and volunteers keen to develop relationships with universities; university staff and students keen to work with museums; engagement experts keen to facilitate effective partnerships; anyone interested in how museums and universities might work better together.

Share Academy: The Future of Collaboration II

Central St. Martins, King’s Cross, London

Monday 11th April 1000 - 1700

Share Academy has spent the last four years brokering and evaluating university/museum partnerships and identifying best practice in the field. More recently we’ve been sharing our learning with museums across the country and building relationships with other organisations which are engaging with or leading on collaborative practice.

The morning of this day symposium will focus on university/museum partnerships at a national, strategic level with speakers from the University Museums Group, National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement and National Alliance for Museums, Health and Wellbeing.

The afternoon will look at university/cultural-heritage partnerships more widely with speakers from The National Archives, Beyond the Creative Campus and Connected Communities. The keynote will be given by Darren Henley, Chief Executive of Arts Council England. Lunch is provided.
