Hi
I'm all for plans - I'm just saying we need to ensure backing up NOW and in next 5-10 years alongside long term rolling of the dice that any of our stuff will survive way into the future. The more I see and work with folks grappling with this the less convinced I am of the majority having a ral chance of being able to deal with this. At our place we'd never be able to shift formats... we still have cassettes from the last 20years we're never going to get sorted let alone ever having the capacity to properly migrate to the next media/format..... and you should have heard the laughter from the network team when I told them how much local storage we needed to upload...
Good luck to all of us!

Isn’t that best addressed with a proper plan for archive maintenance?
e.g. if you have archives on CD, copy them to DVD, on DVD, copy them to Disk, on disk copy them to SSD, when we get crystalmatrix quantum storage, copy them to that. etc.
Have some testable method (checksums?) for confirming data integrity - use it.
don’t just make a backup or three and then think your work is done, you need a plan for maintaining back up integrity and avoiding data decay.
:o)
