Dear List members.
A research student has asked me for an article in French, but he does not speak French (as he said, his skills parallel those of Del Trotter in that department). I thought I might find an institution who has electronic access to it in the original language and then copy and paste into Google translate as a very rough and ready measure. I have used Google translate for giving me a handle on classifying foreign language texts in the past quite effectively (so the speakers of those languages tell me) even post MARC import in Japanese when I can't even type the script.
I suppose, if he's that desperate, he ought to secure the services of a translator, maybe even a fellow student.
But before I unleash my limited ability opinion on him, I would be keen to know what have other folks done.
All the best,
Keith Lang
