Our guest speaker for this year's event is Martin Hayes, who will be giving a talk on digitisation projects.
Martin Hayes is the County Local Studies Librarian for West Sussex Libraries and has been project manager for several local history digitisation projects. West Sussex Library Service holds over 45,000 photographs and pictures of Sussex places and people from the 1640s to the present day. Worthing Library holds views of every parish in West Sussex, and many in East Sussex, and formats comprise photographs (17,000), postcards (12,600), lantern slides (2,000), negatives (1000), prints and engravings (3,500) and original works of art (800). A large amount of this material is now available digitally on the West Sussex Past website http://www.westsussexpast.org.uk/ including West Sussex Past Pictures. The Local Studies team based at Worthing library can provide talks to groups about the collections and aspects of local and family history. Worthing library is a busy library in the heart of the community, boasting a newly refurbished lecture theatre where regularly scheduled free lunchtime talks are held on interesting local topics.
This event is being held in Worthing Library lecture theatre. Tea and coffee will be served from 5pm, with the AGM timed to start at 5.30.
