Dear Colleagues,
One postdoctoral position is available in the group of Dr. Luca Pellegrini in the Department of Biochemistry of the University of Cambridge, UK to work on the role of the synaptonemal complex and associated proteins in establishing the functional architecture of meiotic chromosomes, which is essential for correct pairing and recombination (Davies et al, Open Biology, 2012; Syrjanen et al, eLife, 2014). A multi-disciplinary approach involving biochemical, biophysical and cellular experiments will be used to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of synaptonemal complex assembly on the meiotic chromosome axis. The ultimate goal of the project is to advance our understanding of meiotic chromosome organisation, by means of biochemical reconstitution and structural characterisation using purified protein components.
Candidates will hold or about to be awarded a PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics or Molecular Biology and must have a proven track record of research achievements. Previous experience in the analysis of multi-protein complexes and protein-DNA interactions, as well as familiarity with biophysical techniques such as X-ray crystallography, electron microscopy and single-particle analysis would be an advantage. Candidates trained in molecular or cellular biology and with a strong interest in the study of molecular mechanisms would also be suitable.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
