We have immediate openings for postdoctoral positions for candidates with a strong background in protein biochemistry, or physical/bioinorganic chemistry, or X-ray crystallography/spectroscopy. Our activities involve the use of X-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography of the oxygen-evolving complex of Photosystem II membranes and crystals, and also other metalloproteins, primarily using X-ray free electron laser and synchrotron sources.
An interest in interdisciplinary research is advantageous for this position and it involves collaborative work with several groups, especially a close collaboration with the groups of Nick Sauter and Paul Adams (at LBL) on diffraction data processing and with Uwe Bergmann at SLAC, Stanford, on X-ray spectroscopy. Related work with artificial photosynthetic systems and electron transfer studies using in situ photo/electrochemistry and X-ray spectroscopy are also ongoing in the PIs laboratories.
Recent research from our group in these areas can be found in the following reviews and publications:

Persons with previous postdoctoral experience are also encouraged to apply for this position, if it is within 5 years after receiving a Ph.D. We would appreciate it if you could also make this information available to other potential candidates and to your colleagues in your Department.
