This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is keen to develop a
career in the growing field of health informatics.
The Lindsay Stewart Centre for Audit and Clinical Informatics at the
RCOG is seeking to appoint an experienced data manager to be part of a
multidisciplinary team of staff conducting the new National Maternity
and Perinatal Audit.
The National Maternity and Perinatal Audit will evaluate the quality of
care received by women and newborns cared for by hospital services in
England, Wales and Scotland. Its aim is to assess the organisation of
maternity services as well as to provide timely, high quality data that
compares the care provided and outcomes achieved by providers of
maternity care across a range of audit measures.
The role will involve organising and analysing large, linked datasets,
assessing data quality and managing the information governance issues
that arise with the use of healthcare datasets.
The successful candidate will have:
Excellent quantitative skills
Experience of managing relational databases and using SQL
Experience of working within a multidisciplinary context
An interest in health care performance assessment and quality
improvement
A Bachelor level degree in a quantitative discipline is required and a
higher degree (MSc) in relevant discipline is desirable
Knowledge of data protection and information security principle
This post will be based in the Lindsay Stewart Centre for Audit and
Clinical Informatics at the RCOG and also have an honorary appointment
at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) Department
for Health Services Research and Policy. The Centre’s remit is to
support quality improvement within the specialty by carrying out
high-quality national audits and developing and publishing national
performance indicators for obstetrics and gynaecology.
The Audit is funded by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership.
It is carried out by the RCOG in partnership with the Royal College of
Midwives, Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and the LSHTM.
The post is offered full-time for 2 years with a possibility of
extension. The salary will be between £33,091 and 39,701 per annum,
depending on qualifications and experience.
