Summary:
The postholder will work on a Leverhulme Trust funded project exploring the social implications of self-monitoring of health.
In the context of the rapid growth in consumer technologies for self-monitoring, like blood pressure and glucose monitors and the rise of digital devices like personal fitness trackers, the project will consider what people do in everyday contexts and how self-monitoring integrates with wider healthcare. Focusing on a number of case studies, this qualitative study will consider expert and industry perspectives and the everyday practices of self-monitoring.
The postholder will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the project and contribute to the design and development of the project. You will conduct primary data collection, analyse data and work with the Principal Investigator to develop and co-ordinate impact and dissemination activities. You will also prepare papers for journal/presentatons at national/international conferences or seminars. You will be required to travel nationally and internationally to attend research meetings and undertake fieldwork
The successful applicant will have, or be close to achieving, a PhD in sociology or a related discipline and experience of researching in the area of health medicine, technology and society. Experience in qualitative research and analysis is essential, and of researching both experts/professional and lay perspectives, an advantage.
