The University of Edinburgh is running a free one-day workshop on the 18th April to discuss the challenge of managing research data in relation to records management and archives. The University of Edinburgh takes a proactive and practical cross-disciplinary approach to the management of data, records, archives and other collections. This is an opportunity to explore with other professionals the new issues we are facing at a time of rapid change.
There will be presentations from experienced professionals in the different disciplines, with case studies of recent and current issues, and workshop sessions with opportunities to network and share information. Areas for discussion include ethics, legislation, IPR, policy development and practical workflows including appraisal methodologies. The overarching theme of the event is how we can only solve this challenge by working across the disciplines.
The workshop will consider both the issues involved in capturing current research data and in managing and issues in re-using legacy research data, which can range from mineral specimens and laboratory books to databases and other born-digital content. It will look at the contextual value of holding both research data and the associated records or archives, user needs and at the interventions in the research lifecycle needed to preserve the whole output appropriately.
Anyone working in the sector is invited to attend - please come prepared to speak briefly about your area of work and current issues. Space is limited so early registration is recommended.
