Hi All,
Metadata Librarian job in central London for a Systems Librarian who can demonstrate expertise in maintaining library systems and discoveries, and with eBooks platforms.
You will be joining this well-networked academic institution and charitable foundation at an exciting time. Your primary focus will be a technical one - administering and maintaining library systems and discovery software. The library has plans to improve their current library management system and possibly migrate to new software. The Metadata Librarian has responsibility for the eJournals and eBooks platforms so you should demonstrate an understanding of these. The institution will soon be embarking on a digitisation project and this role will work closely with the Archivist on the project. An appreciation of digitisation and of the issues surrounding digitising rare books and specialist collections would be advantageous.
As part of a small and dedicated library team, the Metadata Librarian will also be expected to get involved in all aspects of library life, including acquisitions, cataloguing and enquiries. It's a great opportunity to broaden your skills and get wide-ranging experience, alongside your ongoing development as a systems librarian. Knowledge of changes and updates to library management systems and open source software would be really useful.
Both the organisation and the library collections are expanding and will be moving to brand new, purpose-built premises soon. The organisation is part of a wider network of academic, cultural and charitable bodies, with the library reflecting this breadth of knowledge and insight, with scholarly sources and historical collections.
Familiarity with languages in non-roman scripts will be an advantage. You will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of Marc and non-Marc metadata formats, standards and schema. Strong interpersonal skills are an absolute must - you'll be part of a close-knit library team and will be liaising with customers and colleagues across the organisation.
This vacancy is paying £32,000 - £35,000pa.
