CALL FOR PROPOSALS: FEMINIST SCHOLAR-ACTIVISM AND THE NEW VIEW CAMPAIGN
CALL FOR PROPOSALS OPENS FEB 15, 2016; CLOSES MAY 15, 2016
Workshop and paper/panel proposals are invited for a unique interdisciplinary conference on FEMINIST SCHOLAR ACTIVISM. This will be the CAPSTONE event of the 15-year project, New View Campaign to Challenge the Medicalization of Sex (newviewcampaign.org). It will focus on the impact and meaning of the New View Campaign as well as related topics in social science, bioethics, humanities, sexology, and feminist activism.
We invite workshops (interactive learning experiences) as well as papers and panel discussions. Sample topics include:
Feminist activism history, theory, stories
How to get started in activism and how to sustain involvement
Women’s Health Movement history, impact, dilemmas
Rhetorical Strategies in Medicalization
Archiving Scholar Activism
How to write an op-ed article
The New View in Pedagogy, Clinical Practice, Research, & in Text and Reference Books
Conflicts of Interest
New View and Gender Theory
How the New View intersects with other struggles for social justice
International Perspectives on the New View
Chasing Normal
How to edit Wikipedia
What I learned at the FDA
Pleasure, Danger and the New View
Sessions at the conference are 90 minutes long, and the organizers will combine topics and formats as appropriate.
SUBMISSION AND REVIEW PROCESS

Only one proposal per person, please
Every submission must include:
Name
Mailing address
Professional or organizational identification
Email
Phone
Title of proposal
Type of proposal (Workshop, Individual presentation, Panel, Other)
A 250-300 word abstract for the review committee
If you are submitting a panel, include all names, addresses, emails, phones, titles and an abstract for each presentation
A 50 word brief take for the program
You may be contacted for clarification or modification of your proposal
To keep expenses low for this grassroots event, all conference attendees (including organizers and presenters) will pay their own registration, travel and housing. Students working at the conference can register at a reduced fee. There are no scholarships or grants available.
All those submitting proposals will be notified whether they have been accepted for the program by June 15, 2016
Registration closes September 21; Earlybird rate ends June 1.
