Hi Tony,
I have not heard of or experienced Plastazote shrinking. There is an article on polyethylene foam degradation here: http://cool.conservation-us.org/byauth/williams/foam.html which may be of help, although it, too, does not mention shrinkage. PE foam is usually noted for its long-term stability.
Do you know the supplier and grade of the foam used in your drawer?

Has anyone done any research into the long life of Plastazote as a display material? Does anyone know if it shrinks with time?
I've been using it in the drawers in our public centre to hold display boxes in, and to keep the specimens themselves steady and protected from vibration. This current batch will have been in use for about 10 years.
Recently I have noticed a lot more boxes shifting and specimens coming loose. I was wondering if Plastazote has a useful shelf-life (It may be that our visitors are getting more violent with objects).
I have attached a photo to illustrate the way the objects are set out in these drawers.
