Dear all,
Apologies if these have already been posted here, but besides Giulio's supervisors' open letter and the Univerity of Cambridge initial statement, both CAF-MESA and BRISMES have published their own open letters to the Egyptian government (CAF-MESA somehow more assertive than the BRISMES). Please consider signing these too.
BRISMES: http://www.brismes.ac.uk/weblinks/open-letter-to-president-al-sisi-regarding-giulio-regeni
MESA: https://t.co/K4NNSLv4Px
Neil Pyper from the School of Strategy and Leadership, Coventry University told me today they are "waiting for the go ahead from the UK Parliament website to circulate the link to a petition" to ask the UK government for a statement on Regeni.
The UK-based members might also consider writing to their MP to raise the issue.
Lastly, and without meaning to justify or condone anything or anyone, the cautious reaction from several poles might also be interpreted as an attempt to respect the will and safety of the victim's next of kin (especially as Giulio's family was still in Cairo until Saturday), and also because - and most importantly - only late on Saturday the Giza office of the public prosecutor finished questioning Giulio's contacts in Cairo, including European nationals (as reported yesterday by the Guardian). Their safety, as part of Giulio's wide network of academic and personal contacts, also needs to be considered in such complicated circumstances
Many thanks
Sara Fregonese
