FSEA 2016: Fostering Sustainability through Effective Applications
a workshop at International Working Conference on Advanced Visual
Interfaces (AVI 2016)
7 June 2016, Bari, Italy
http://it4se.informatik.fh-augsburg.de/FSEA16/
Organized by IFIP WG13.10 on Human-Centred Technology for Sustainability
About the Workshop
----------------------------
Challenges like global warming, world population growth, and the decline
of many precious resources such as energy and water call for sustainable
activities towards a resource-efficient and climate-resilient society
and economy. ICT with advanced visual interfaces can make valuable
contributions toward these goals by assisting better use of such
resources, as well as promoting behavior that support sustainability. In
recent years, many technologies have been developed to help reduce the
consumption of energy, and in some cases water. These include a plethora
of tools and services for public displays and dashboards to increase
energy-awareness, all kinds of mobile apps for remote energy monitoring
and control, web-portals to share energy consumption data, simulation
tools for energy efficient design, such as zero-energy buildings. Many
of these applications have to deal with a growing volume of data
generated and recorded by for instance smart meters, automated devices
and various kinds of sensors. This calls for advanced interfaces and
visualization methods that enable users to access and interpret these data.
The FSEA 2016 is third workshop in this series, following on from FSEA
2014 held in conjunction with AVI 2014 (Como, Italy), and FSEA 2015 held
in conjunction with INTERACT 2015 (Bamberg, Germany).
Call for Participation
----------------------------
We invite researchers and practitioners from a range of backgrounds,
including interaction design, human-computer interaction, visualization,
computer games, media technology, and domain experts from energy-related
application areas. Interested participants should submit a position
paper reporting their contributions to the field of the workshop and
highlight their specific interests in the workshop topics.
Topics include, but are not limited to, design and evaluation of
interfaces and visualizations for:
- monitoring and management of resources (such as energy, water, fuels,
raw matters, etc.)
- revealing patterns and behavior from resource consumption datasets
- relating resource consumption data to other information
- management of resources in smart homes, neighborhoods, and cities
- simulation systems
- gamified approaches to promote conservation of resources
- sharing and comparing resources consumption data with other users
- prosumer support systems
- user evaluation studies
Position papers should be 4-6 pages long, and prepared according to the
ACM proceedings format (templates available at:
http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates).
Submissions should be made via Easychair at:
http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=fsea2016.
The workshop program committee will review the submitted position
papers, and select 10-15 papers for presentation at the workshop based
on their quality and relevance to the workshop topics.
We are intending to have posters and interactive demo sessions during
the workshop. These sessions will be open to all the workshop
participants (with or without an accepted position paper) to give
everyone a chance to discuss their research with others. If you would
like to present a poster or demo during these sessions then please
contact the organiszers.
Depending on space availability, other interested attendees of the AVI
2016 conference without a position paper are also welcome to join this
workshop.
Workshop Proceedings
-----------------------------------
The accepted workshop position papers will be included in the workshop
proceedings published as a working paper series of the University of
Waikato (with an ISBN). They will also be made available on the workshop
website. In addition, reference (title, authors and abstract uo to 150
words) to each accepted paper will be made in the extended abstract of
the FSEA16 workshop which will be included in the AVI 2016 conference
proceedings.
Important Dates
----------------------------
Paper submission deadline: 18 March 2016
Notification of acceptance: 8 April 2016
Camera-ready version: 17 April 2016
