In 1958, Mao Zedong declared that Chinese medicine was a "great treasure-house" and that it had to be "diligently explored and improved upon". What followed was an unprecedented, comprehensive, state-endorsed programme to investigate and modernise Chinese medicine and therapeutic techniques. We will explore the use of acupuncture within global medicine including the scientific exploration of acupoints and meridians. This free talk will launch our series of lectures on aspects of Chinese medicine and therapeutic techniques that will run throughout 2016.
