*The Academic Book in the South*
Registration is open for the British Library conference ‘The Academic Book
in the South <http://www.bl.uk/events/the-academic-book-in-the-south>’ on
7th-8th March 2016. This two-day conference considers how profound changes
in publishing will affect the academic book in the global South.

- Padmini Ray Murray, Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology
- Nureldin M. Satti, National Library of Sudan & Sudanese Association
for the Archiving of Knowledge
Speakers will address the production, dissemination, reading and reception
of the academic book with a specific focus on Africa, the Middle East and
South Asia, and there are panel discussions about academic authorship and
knowledge production, academic publishing and the role of libraries and
archives. The conference will consider how scholars’ ability to write,
publish and get access to academic resources is facilitated by digital
technology and will assess the implications of the rapid growth of Open
