A Ph.D position is available in the Department of Engineering in the area of Statistical Inference (using Monte Carlo methods) for big-data applications. The Ph.D studentship is funded by the EPSRC (UK students will be fully funded, while EU students are eligible for fees only awards).

Candidate profile: An undergraduate (preferably Masters) degree in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics with a good academic record. A strong mathematical background is essential, especially in probability and inference. Some knowledge of optimization is desirable. Prior research experience in any of these areas would be a plus.
Eligibility: Full funding is only available to students classed as ‘home’. For EU students it is your responsibility to find the additional funds needed and overseas students can not be supported by this scheme.
Start date 1st October 2016.
