Intern, University of Oxford
An opportunity has arisen for an undergraduate student, currently enrolled on a mathematics or other relevant scientific degree, preferably including a statistics component, to work with the statistics group in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford. This is a full-time position for a period of two months (July-August 2016) with a salary equivalent to Grade 4.1 (£20,989 per annum or £11.06 per hour).
The position is particularly suitable for an undergraduate at the end of their second year (or third year of a four-year degree) who is considering a career in medical statistics or a related field.
This post has been awarded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) to support the training and development of a medical statistician. The intern will:
- (if necessary) learn statistical programming using R and/or Stata;
- review and summarise relevant statistical methods from the academic literature;
- apply the statistical methods to clinical trial data;
- contribute towards a report, for potential publication in an academic journal, describing the main findings from the project.
Previous experience of the above activities is not essential, and full support will be given as required.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 4th April 2016. We anticipate holding interviews on Wednesday 27th April 2016.
