MSc in Epidemiology & Biostatistics

This MSc in Epidemiology & Biostatistics aims to give scientists,
mathematicians and clinicians the statistical skills they require to
engage in all areas of quantitative health research, epidemiology and
biostatistics. The course aims to encourage an enquiring attitude and a
broader understanding of the research environment. Graduates will go on
to work in the NHS, the pharmaceutical industry, University medical
schools and research institutes, where they will directly contribute to
work that will benefit people's health and quality of life.

into complex chronic disorders including cardiovascular disease,
diabetes, and cancer. As a student here, you will learn from academics

The programme comprises a common core of taught components including

Core epidemiology
Statistical inference
Advanced epidemiological techniques
Introduction to modelling
Professional spine covering a range of research skills and competencies
including critical appraisal, ethics, reviewing and writing research
articles.
With a range of elective modules available:
Applied population and demographic analysis
Communicable disease control
Introduction to genetic epidemiology
Introduction to clinical trials
Independent learning skills in epidemiology & biostatistics
Multilevel and latent variable modelling
Non-communicable disease epidemiology
Population Health: principles and practice
The course culminates in a research project designed, conducted and
written up in collaboration with our team of researchers. You will be
encouraged to submit the results of the project for publication in a
journal.

Investigating the impact of antenatal iron supplementation on
birthweight in a large prospective birth cohort using Structural
Equation Modelling (see

Leeds is centrally located, with good access by rail and road to the
rest of the UK, and close to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, Lake
District and Peak District.
