Subject: Cost of Companions
Over the years I've read many policies on the cost of companion tickets. For example with a railcard both tickets for wheelchair user and companion cost 2/3rds price, so travel is 33% more expensive. Many places give the companion place for free (though not a provider like an airline). Sometimes this is qualified so that the companion only has a free seat if they are needed during the event, such as monitoring the disabled person or helping in emergency egress, so independent disabled people don't get a discount. Some places give an additional dscount to disabled people if they receive certain benefits such as DLA. Other providers say disabled people get DLA to pay for their additional costs and therefore don't need a discount.
Has anyone any national, particularly government views on the fair charges for a disabled person and companion.
Thanks
Mark
