Hi Clare

Thanks for your response, I hope you are well. As the Trust moves to a paperless system staff will not have access to the PAS labels as they are currently stored in the patient notes.

I am going to ask the EPR team if a label report can be added to the system. Otherwise I cannot see an easy option.

Kay

Hi Kay,

I'm not sure how you can get around this?

We're working towards electronic reporting for urinalysis, and will use the bar-coded PAS label in the patient notes to label the specimen. Alternatively we can print labels directly from Blood Track, as the transfusion team do.

However, this will add extra steps.

Kind regards,
Clare

Subject: Connected Urinalysis and Paperless System

Dear All

Does anyone currently have urinalysis results connected to their electronic patient record (EPR) AND have a paperless clinic system?

A few clinics have asked for connected urinalysis, yet with a paperless system they will not have patient labels with a bar-coded hospital number. So the question is how to label the samples?

Hand written labels are open to error and this would require manual entry of the patient details onto the analyser which is time consuming and error prone. They do not want to create an EPR order for basic urinalysis as this is normally completed by HCA's before the patient has seen a Dr. EPR orders cannot be placed by HCA's and the logistics of finding an available PC and label printer could be an issue.

It would be helpful to hear from anyone has a similar system in place. Also ideas of a possible solution would be welcome from all.

Thank you
