We are pleased to announce that the 1939 Register is now available as part
of Findmypast
<https://www.jcsonlineresources.org/catalogue/findmypast-for-uk-higher-educa
tion-institutions> , an invaluable resource for historical research.
One of the most important British documents of the 20th century.
The 1931 census was destroyed during an air raid, and the 1941 census was
never taken, so the 1939 Register is the only surviving overview of the
civil population of England and Wales spanning the period 1921-1951.
Following a massive digitisation project undertaken by Findmypast in
partnership with The National Archives, all 7,000 volumes of the 1939
Register are now available online, and exclusively through Findmypast.
41 million lives recorded in one day at the outbreak of World War II.
The 1939 Register lists the names, addresses, marital statuses, occupations
and more of over 41 million people in Great Britain and Northern Ireland on
National Registration Day on 29th September 1939.
