Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to tell you that the UK Government’s Department for Transport has commissioned us to carry out a swift evidence review of research on Young People’s Travel Behaviour. The review will be carried out by a team from the Centre for Transport and Society, UWE (Bristol), and the Transport Studies Unit, Oxford University, and is directly focussed on understanding the strength of evidence and explanations for shifts of behaviour which have been noticed in many countries in recent years. In particular, the review is seeking to identify how young people’s lifestyles have changed (and may change in the future) and how this is affecting their travel behaviour.
We would like to know of relevant research we should consider in our review. We have directly approached researchers we know have published work in this subject area, but are conscious that there is other work of which we are unaware. If you have conducted research that you think is relevant to the review then we like to hear from you.
If you are able to send us the bibliographic details, URL or PDF of work you are happy to have included, we should be most grateful. This might include – if you want – work which is still in progress, provided that it does not cause you problems for us to cite it in our report, which will be published. We are not confining the literature to peer-reviewed papers in academic journals, but will include salient research from Government, industry and other stakeholders. If you can also alert us to other work that you are aware of, by collaborators or others, of course we’d like to hear about that as well.
Please reply to me at [log in to unmask] with your response to this request. In due course we will send results of our review to those who have contributed material, and engage in further discussions about potential further research or other follow-up, although the form of those discussions has not yet been decided.
Best regards, Kiron Chatterjee
