Hi
Would anyone be willing to share with me, on- or off-list, their experience of cross-domain tracking cookies (and apologies if I'm not-quite-right with terminology here, I mean the kind of thing that are commonly attached to 'pixels' or 'web bugs' and used to track 'conversions' from digital advertising).
I'm not interested in the technical implementation (ie using Google Tag Manager), so much as the privacy, security and organisational issues that surround using them, in particular these questions:
Was using them an internal initiative or in response to a request from a marketing agency you were working with?
Was the case for using them, the benefits of using them, and the privacy implications clearly explained?
Did you have to audit/change your privacy policy in order to use them (even if for eg you were already using GA)?
Did you explain to users of your site that these cookies were being used, and how they were being used, even if it was only on a single page of the site?
How was the data you collected useful to the organisation?
Were there any negative effects of using them?
Any experience or learning you can share much appreciated, and very happy to keep anything in confidence.
Many thanks
Danny
