HSA CONFERENCE 2016 – ‘Housing at the extremes: austerity, prosperity and systems change”
Wednesday 6th- Friday 8th April 2016, University of York, UK
The call for papers for the Early Career Housing Researcher Stream at this conference is now open.
The Early Career Researcher stream represents a vital part of the Housing Studies Association’s commitment to emerging research communities. It offers early career delegates a supportive forum in which to showcase their work and gain constructive feedback. This long standing stream is well attended by conference delegates.
The Early Career Researcher stream is open to:
• Masters students
• PhD students
• Newly qualified postdoctoral researchers
• Junior researchers working outside academia
• Other researchers who would benefit from the supportive environment provided by this stream
Early Career delegates can also submit a paper for the Valerie Karn Early Career Memorial Prize, which runs annually. Papers should be between 4,000 and 8,000 words in length and submitted in Word format to Gareth Young ([log in to unmask]) by 12th February 2016.
The Early Career stream runs parallel to the main conference, which this year features a range of confirmed speakers from academia, policy and practice. Please visit the conference website for further programme information: http://housing-studies-association.org/events/
Participants are invited to present initial plans for research, tentative findings, experiences of conducting research or final conclusions, allowing scholars to present their work no matter what stage they are at in their studies.
Submission
Papers are invited on a range of topics and from a range of disciplines, including (but not exclusive to) housing studies, social policy, planning, geography, criminology, economics, sociology and politics.
Please email a 200 word abstract to Richard Dunning ([log in to unmask]) and Joe Crawford ([log in to unmask]) by Friday 12th February 2016. Please contact either of us if you have any queries. Participants should also complete a booking form and register for the conference which can be found here: http://housing-studies-association.org/events/
Bursaries
Six bursaries, jointly funded by the HSA and Housing Studies Charitable Trust, are available providing financial support for attending the conference. Please note that bursary applications are managed separately from the early career stream. Details can be found at: http://housing-studies-association.org/hsa-bursaries/conference-bursaries/ and the deadline is also 12 February 2016.
**NEW EVENT** Early Career Researchers in Housing: funding and application writing workshop
Location: Centre for Housing Policy, University of York, York
Date: Wednesday 6th April 2016
Time: 10:00-12:00
The HSA would like to invite all Early Career Researchers to a workshop on funding and research application writing. The aim of the workshop is to provide information about the types of funding available, the types of application funders have found successful and to undertake a practical application writing and reviewing exercise.
The workshop is free to attend, is immediately before the annual conference and is open to anyone who self-defines as an
Early Career Researcher (including postgraduate students) and is interested in housing.
• What funding is available
• What funders are looking for in ECR applications
• Practical exercise reviewing previous applications
The HSA recognises that there are particular challenges for ECRs in identifying, preparing and submitting research bids. This workshop is an exciting opportunity for ECRs to work through some of these challenges and hear from senior academic and research funding bodies how some of the common pitfalls can be avoided and the quality of applications improved.
Please indicate your attendance by emailing Joe Crawford ([log in to unmask]) and Richard Dunning ([log in to unmask]) before Wednesday 17th February 2016.
