Dear hive-mind,
For an upcoming show I'm considering an element that would involve a very powerful laser on stage (>=200mW). I'm aware of the various risks this entails, and have ideas for how to minimise them, such as:
*Laser fixed in place on immovable rig with matt surroundings (fixed relative to laser on rig) to prevent scatter
*Enclosure around beam in location accessed by demonstrator to prevent objects falling into beam and causing scatter
*Laser has key to operate
*Kill switch
*Demonstration not at eye-level
*Care with proximity to flammables
*Safe distance from audience
*Demonstrator wears eye protection
*Laser will NOT be attached to the head of a shark
But of course I want to do a lot lot more research before I even begin to commit to the idea. If anyone has had any experience with this and could emit wisdom, recount experiences, or point to pertinent safety documentation then I would be very grateful.
Yours,
Nic Harrigan
