Marc Bauder: The Sytem / Das System - Alles Verstehen Heißt Alles Verzeihen
Mike Hiller is caught breaking into a mansion. Much to his surprise the owner doesn’t report him to the police. Instead he takes him under his wing and introduces the young man to a new world of power and money. Mike is seduced by the possibility of escaping from the bleak tower blocks of his hometown on the Baltic sea.
Director Marc Bauder, best known for his documentary portrait of former top investment banker Rainer Voss, Master of the Universe, delivers a gripping thriller set against the background of the capitalist takeover of post-GDR East Germany and the accompanying entanglement of politics and business.
Bauder based his story on extensive research into the construction of the gas-pipeline connecting Russia and Western Europe and the role of old Stasi networks in this context.
Director: Marc Bauder. With Jacob Matschenz, Bernhard Schütz, Jenny Schily, Heinz Hoenig, Florian Renner, Jürgen Holtz, Franziska Wulf, Mario Pokatzky, Michael Abendroth.
