Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Migration and Refugee Law and Politics – Applications Closing Date: February 29, 2016

The Faculty of Public Affairs at Carleton University invites applications from qualified candidates for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) appointment in Migration and Refugee Law and Politics. Tier 1 Chairs are intended for outstanding researchers whose accomplishments are acknowledged by their peers and have had a major impact in their field. The successful candidate will be a senior academic at the level of Full Professor with an outstanding international reputation as a research leader. S/he will be a world-class scholar of the global movement of people. Research may focus on, but not be limited to: rights, status and justice; citizenship, identities and diasporas; refugees and forced migration; securitization, borders, criminalization and regulation of migration, including the movement of labour. Ultimately housed within a unit within the Faculty of Public Affairs, the appointed scholar will stimulate: catalytic and interdisciplinary initiatives; collaborations within Carleton University and with external partners; and engagement in public debates.

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION                                                                                         

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field, and will:

- be recognized as an outstanding and innovative research leader whose accomplishments have had a significant international impact;

- have a superior record of obtaining competitive external research funding and attracting and supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows;

- as chairholder, be expected to develop collaborative programs of research involving faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows from across the entire university and, where appropriate, from outside Carleton University; and

- be proposing an original, innovative research program of the highest quality.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications should consist of: a signed letter of application; a curriculum vitae; a copy of three of the applicant’s most influential publications; and a comprehensive Canada Research Chair vision statement of not longer than 10 pages that includes a specific, personal research plan, a statement of research contributions, including mentoring faculty and graduate students, a plan for developing or fostering research across boundaries and/or disciplinary strengths, and a plan for the development of externally funded large-scale strategic research projects and/or other programs appropriate to the field. Applications should also include a list of three referees who may be contacted later in the process with the candidate’s permission.
