Hallo Kim,
The best source of information about the Dutch education system is here:
https://www.epnuffic.nl/
There is a really good factsheet that I think will answer your question:
https://www.epnuffic.nl/en/publications/education-system-the-netherlands.pdf
I hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Sebastiaan (exPAT Dutchman and non-klompen)

Dear Kim:
I am not aware of any Dutch university offering a taught PhD in disability law. Probably the best known person in this field is Lisa Waddington at Maastricht ([log in to unmask]), I assume that's the person you already know about.
I would also recommend getting in touch with Disability Studies in Nederland: Disability Studies in Nederland

You might also try contacting the Juridische Steunpunt: http://www.juridischsteunpunt.nl/juridisch-steunpunt/This is a disability legal advice service run by I(e)dereen, which is an organisation that provides support for people with disabilities, especially people with intellectual disabilities. As far as how the system works, it isn't easy to get a supervisor as a buitenpromovendus--you need to convince the supervisor that there is something in it for them (publications, research potential etc.) Typically, getting a PhD place is more getting like a job: you respond to an advert (see academictransfer.nl) which can be about a general topic area or a very specific project. And you are paid during your studies.
BTW, I have been told that Belgian universities are more responsive to taking on independent students (and they are a lot cheaper).
Good luck with your search!

Hi,
I'm currently looking into signing up at a Dutch University to read for a PhD in disability law as an external candidate (buitenpromovendi) but I am struggling to identify potential supervisors from their online profiles (apart from Maastricht).
If there's anyone out there who has any experience of how the Dutch PhD system works, or is/knows a Dutch academic who does supervise buitenpromovendi and would be willing to have a chat off line, I'd really appreciate getting some help from you.
Many thanks,
Kim

Subject: Adapted Imagery research - request for help.
Dear fellow Researchers in Disability Sport / Physical Activity,
I am looking for some help in distributing my research to wheelchair athletes / athletes who make use of a wheelchair and wondered if the group would mind assisting me, given the vast connections that probably exist on here to the associated field of research?
I have worked with a number of elite athletes with a disability (from grass roots level to Paralympic athletes) and have found that many of the psychometric measures we commonly make use of with able bodied athletes, to be somewhat unsuitable for use when working with athletes with a disability.
As a result of this gap in the research, I am in the process of adapting the Vividness of Movement Imagery Questionnaire - 2 (VMIQ-2; Roberts et al. 2008). For those not psych minded, it’s essentially an imagery questionnaire but the current format is very “able-bodied” centric, so as someone who works with wheelchair athletes, an adapted version is a must.
In order for this to happen I need a large number of athletes who ideally make use of a wheelchair for the purpose of their sport to complete the questionnaire as per the link in the email below.
Such sports would include (but are not limited to) Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby, Wheelchair Tennis, Wheelchair racing (track or road), Wheelchair Curling, Wheelchair Fencing, Cross Country Skiing (Sitting category), Boccia, Archery (wheelchair event) and Hand cycling events.
If the athlete makes use of a chair for daily use but not their sport then they can still complete the questionnaire but will need to do the visualising from their day chair rather than sports chair.
If you have any contacts in any of these sports then please can you forward the email below and the attached flyer OR send me their contact details and I will contact them directly (data protection considerations to be made here).
I really appreciate any support with this research and am more than happy to chat further to anyone who might be interested in this research!
Many thanks in advance,
Andrea

Dear athlete / coach,
You have been contacted as you are considered a valuable individual to help advance Sport Psychology research in athletes with a disability.
Currently very few psychometric measures (questionnaires) exist to assess the specific psychological needs and capabilities of athletes with a disability and often adaptations are made to the able bodied versions of the measures, which are sometimes inappropriate.
I am trying to create a valid and reliable adaptation of a well-known Movement Imagery Questionnaire (Vividness of Movement Imagery Questionnaire – 2; VMIQ-2, Roberts et al. 2008), for specific and focused use in wheelchair sports.
Please help me with this research by taking 20 minutes to complete the questionnaire on the link below and sharing the link with relevant others. You can access the link on a tablet / phone and have a chance of winning £50 Amazon voucher for your efforts!
You can take part if you are an athlete / former athlete of a wheelchair sport (e.g. Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby, Wheelchair Tennis, Boccia etc). Equally, if you or your athlete makes use of a chair for daily use but not their sport then you can still complete the questionnaire but will need to do the visualising from your day chair rather than sports chair.
Your views are really appreciated and will be contributing to the advancement in research for disability sport, something that is long overdue.
The link can be found here:

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch and feel free to share with an many athletes as you like.

*Reconsidering the Postcolonial Debate: Intersecting Postcolonialism, Education and Disability for Genuine Sustainable Development*
*Tsitsi Chataika*
*University of Zimbabwe*
*Visiting researcher, School of Education*
*Abstract*
In this presentation, I argue for the need to reconsider the postcolonial debate by converging postcolonial theory, education and disability for sustainable development. The essence here is to provide an intertwined
interdisciplinary discourse, which focuses on sustainable development. In
the process, I align myself with Stuart Hall, who considers postcolonialism’s indecisive reception amongst differing constituencies as a sign of both, desire and danger. The debate around postcolonialism has been taken to extremes by various commentators, including those who claim to have experienced colonialism. Regrettably, the debates seem to be widening the misunderstanding gap; thus, working against global cohesion, which can bring sanity to sustainable global development. In unpacking this discussion, I consider the work of various postcolonial scholars namely Said, Bhabha, Ahluwalia, Mandela (popularly known as Madhibha); Barker and Murray; Parekh, Ghai, Grech and Meekosha. The need for a more emancipatory, rather than an appeasing and/or confrontational postcolonial stance, is argued for. This argument is based on the need to integrate postcolonial theory with education and disability for sustainable development. Against this backdrop, the presentation then provides a summative account, which demonstrates how an intertwined disciplinary discourse can promote ‘a marriage of commitment’ (as opposed to
convenience) to both global North and global South parties, with view to outgrowing the ‘bickering stage’ and mainly focus on sincere ways of attaining the post-2015 sustainable development goals.
*Biography*
Tsitsi Chataika, a PhD graduate of Sheffield of University, is a senior lecturer in inclusive education in the Department of Educational Foundations, which falls under the Faculty of Education at the University of Zimbabwe. Her research interests include the connection of disability, gender, education, childhood studies, development and postcolonialism.
Tsitsi has been conducting disability awareness and mainstreaming workshops in countries such as Kenya, Malawi, South Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe. She recently developed a gender and disability mainstreaming training manual, which can be used by various stakeholders in Africa and beyond. In 2012, she set up a Zimbabwe Disability Inclusive Development Forum, which brings together disability activists, researchers, policy makers and ordinary citizens in order to network, share information, best practices, opinions and ideas, as well as lobby and advocate for disability inclusion in development processes in Zimbabwe. Tsitsi was part of a three-member team that recently evaluated a three-year inclusive education programme in Zimbabwe covering 30 model schools, which was initiated by Lenard Cheshire International, in collaboration with the country’s Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. Tsitsi is a board member in various disability-related organisations. Her recent publications include:
