McKinney International Art and Design Residency
Indiana University Bloomington
Deadline: February 15, 2016

=========================================================

The School of Art and Design at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a 4-6 week Fall 2016 McKinney International Art and Design Residency. The residency is open to artists at all levels of their career whose primary country of residency is outside of the United States. Approximate dates for Fall 2016 are September 1st through Dec 18th.

Applicants should be actively engaged in contemporary artistic practice and show evidence of a national or international exhibition record. Applications from practitioners of studio disciplines, as well as criticism, are welcome.
The Artist-in-Residence is selected based on the merits of their professional careers, their dedication in being part of an academic environment and their plan to develop and expand on their creative process based on facilities and access to the unique collections and research specialties available at IU. The successful applicants will remain in residence throughout the tenure of their session. Selected applicants will be featured as part of the McKinney Visiting Artist Lecture Series. In addition, prospective residents will coordinate with the School of Art and Design to offer studio visits, open studios and a workshop based on technical/conceptual innovations.

Indiana University Bloomington is the flagship campus of IU’s eight campuses statewide. Innovation, creativity, and academic freedom are hallmarks of our world-class contributions in research and in the arts. Just 50 miles southwest of Indianapolis with over 40,000 students, the University of Indiana Bloomington is the arts and cultural hub of the Midwest. While IU's amazing arts and entertainment offerings play a large role in the city's cultural atmosphere, Bloomington is extraordinary in its own right. Bloomington residents and IU students, faculty, and staff form a vibrant, active community that benefits from the metropolitan qualities of a large city and the easy pace of a small town.
The Department of Studio Art, founded in 1895, is one of the premier art schools in the country. The School offers graduate and undergraduate degrees in Studio Art. Studio areas include ceramics, drawing and painting, graphic design, metalsmithing and jewelry design, digital media/computer arts, photography, textiles, printmaking, and sculpture.

Studio space, lodging and a $4,000 USD honorarium will be provided for each position. The program will reimburse travel up to $2000. Other studio expenses will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
To apply, submit a cover letter, CV, 500 word proposal, portfolio of ten images of recent work (artists) or 2 writing samples (critics/writers). Please specify in your proposal your availability for dates, and interest in IU’s studio and research facilities and how this would best support your studio practice.

Artists are invited to develop proposals using the following resources available at IU:
//Access to studios from all 9 areas
//Significant original prints and collections of prehistoric to contemporary arts are available at the Indiana University Art Museum
//Archival resources at the Fine Arts Library which holds significant collection of artist books
//Lilly Rare Book Library and the Kinsey Institute for Sex research
//Residents may also have the opportunity to closely work with the Center for Integrative Photographic Studies(CIPS), the study of photography, lens-based and sensing imaging across many disciplines in arts, humanities and sciences at Indiana University, Mathers Museum and Sage Collection
//The extensive programming at the Jacobs School of Music and IU Cinema
//Additional Bloomington campus or regional research resources or cultural assets.

Applications should be Uploaded to SLIDEROOM. https://indiana.slideroom.com/#/permalink/program/28860

Review of applications will begin February 15, 2016. Complete applications submitted by this date will receive full consideration.
*IUB is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to fostering diversity within faculty and student population, and we encourage applications from women and minority candidates.
