Departmental Lecturer in Modern Chinese History and Politics

We are seeking a Departmental Lecturer in Modern Chinese History and Politics, tenable from 1 October 2016 for a fixed-term of 3 years. The appointment is to fulfil teaching needs while Professor Rana Mitter serves as Director of the Oxford China Centre, and is a joint appointment by the History Faculty and the Department of Politics and International Relations.
Applications are invited from scholars with active research interests in any field of modern Chinese History or Politics; historians with some interests in contemporary Chinese politics, broadly defined, or political scientists or theorists of China with historical interests would be particularly welcome.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability and willingness to give tutorials, lectures, classes and supervision at both undergraduate and graduate level. S/he will also be required to undertake examining and administrative work for the Faculty and the Department, and will engage in advanced study and original research in modern Chinese History and Politics.
The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in a relevant field or show evidence that a doctorate is imminently expected. S/he will have a strong research record and a record of successful teaching within the field, the ability to teach and lecture at an appropriate level in an interesting, engaging manner and a willingness to undertake examining and administrative duties.
