Bioinformatics Research Assistant (MGU 89)
MRC Mammalian Genetics Unit
Harwell, Oxfordshire
£21,733 - £31,963 per annum (including allowances)
About Us
We are based at MRC Harwell, a major international research centre at the forefront of studies in mouse genetics and functional genomics (www.har.mrc.ac.uk). The centre investigates a wide variety of mouse models in order to enhance our understanding of the molecular and genetic basis of physiology and disease. The Computational Biology Team develops computational methods to explore the large volumes of data generated by our projects and disseminate the results to the wider scientific community.
About the Role
You will join the Computational Biology Team at MRC Harwell, working in the area of functional genomics to identify novel genes with important roles in different phenotype domains and supplementing the existing Biocomputing group at MRC Harwell. We aim to analyse different forms of genomic data to support the discovery of gene function in mouse models of human disease with particular emphasis on phenotypes deriving from the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC). In particular we develop workflows and novel analyses using a variety of datasources and correlates the results to mouse phenotypes. These range from epigenetic resources such as ENCODE, FANTOM, Epigenome Roadmap to human mutation and GWAS resources such as the GWAS catalogue. You will work on the above areas, focusing on; the development of analysis pipelines, project management and data interpretation. In addition you may partake in scientific projects we have in collaboration with internal and external groups such as the Neurological group at Harwell.
