Hi folks
We doing some work next week with a group that manages outdoor facilities -
trails and heritage facilities in a challenging environment. One of their
major issues is around interpretive signage. There is plenty of guidance
out there on informational or directional signage, including the 'Written
Communications' guide in our Toolkit for tourism providers
(http://universaldesign.ie/tourism).
However, interpretive signage is quite different. It can include large
amounts of text, often with some technical details (geology, botany and
more). It may include photos, diagrams or maps. It can be difficult to
ensure that this signage is accessible to people with sight loss, or people
with intellectual disabilities or older people with poor sight and more.
Has anyone got any good examples of interpretive signage which has been
universally designed to get around these difficulties, or any relevant
guidelines in this area?
Many thanks
Shane
