HI Shaneela,
We too are having our UKAS inspection shortly. We have listed all our devices on the asset register separately as each has a separate serial number. We have interpreted the standards to be that we should be able to demonstrate for every piece of kit when it was purchased, accepted, verified, put into use, malfunctioned and taken out of use etc. Almost like a tracking log of sorts. We have created a generic asset for each device type: so a general asset for FPP glucose meters which includes information which is relevant to all those devices such as traceability, calibration, uncertainty, method comparison, user manual etc. We are hoping this meets requirements but until we have the inspection it is difficult for us to know what the gaps are and how the assessors will interpret these standards. We are a small trust so it is practical for us to do this, however it has still been a big job.
We do regular temp audits on the wards and include in our audit schedule. We do these using the comark temp loggers used by transfusion. We are aware of all temperature ranges for reagents and store all POCT in a temp logged environment. The wards is challenging and esp services where devices go off site to clinics etc.
Hope this helps!

Subject: POCT Devices and asset numbers!
Hello everyone,
We are having our CPA/UKAS inspection later this year and I was wondering about POCT devices and the ISO standards. Does anyone have any experience with the following issues:
1.Do we have to list every POCT device, docking station, meter with separate asset numbers or can we use 1 asset number to cover all BM meters, 1 asset number for all ketone meters etc..?
Also, temperatures and POCT reagents out on the wards - should we be recording temps where staff store their reagent strips etc..? How do the POCT team manage this side of things?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Shaneela Perkins
