Dear colleagues
Having trained as an archivist pre-ISAD(G) I originally learnt to use the terms 'Item' and 'Piece' for the two lower levels of description. However ISAD (G) states that 'File' should be used for the old 'Item' and 'Item' for the old 'Piece'. I'd be very interested to hear from archives who have altered their catalogue data retrospectively to conform to the ISAD(G) terms or have decided not to either for past for future cataloguing. Also if an archive now uses 'File' as a level of description do you no longer use it as a description term which recording the format? eg file in the sense of a ring binder or paper file.
Any thoughts gratefully received!
Thanks
Emily
