Salary: £31,918 per annum

Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week

This is a fixed term contract until 17 October 2017

Leonard Cheshire Disability is seeking an experienced Heritage Project Manager to deliver a project supporting disabled people to access its history. We have been awarded a heritage grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to deliver an exciting project “Rewind – 7 decades of stories from Leonard Cheshire Disability” using the heritage material held at our archive in Netherseal, South Derbyshire and our services in the South East of England.

Run by our archivist and supported by volunteers, the Archive Centre holds the history of the charity, our founder Leonard Cheshire and the personal stories of disabled people and volunteers involved with the charity since its inception in 1948.

You will be based in London with regular travel to six services in Kent, Surrey and Sussex; you will deliver the activity plan agreed with the Heritage Lottery Fund and supervise a project officer based at our archive in Netherseal.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Heritage Project Manager

Reporting to: Archivist/Heritage Project Board

Department: Corporate Affairs


PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To lead, manage and deliver a two year Heritage Lottery Fund supported project including the delivery of a heritage programme and oral history project with Leonard Cheshire Disability (LCD) staff, volunteers and people with disabilities who use LCD services.
The role will include working closely with the Archivist and Heritage Project Officer to oversee the delivery of an archive digitisation project and the creation of a new heritage website.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Put in place appropriate project management procedures and reporting structures
• Responsibility for managing and delivering the project Activity Plan, including:
o Develop and deliver a programme of heritage related activities within six LCD residential services in the South East using archive material including film, audio and photographs, working with external practitioners as appropriate
o Undertake an oral history project within six LCD services in the South East to record the stories of staff, volunteers and people with disabilities who use LCD services
o Recruit, train and manage volunteers to support the heritage programme and oral history project, working with external trainers as appropriate
o Develop links with other organisations and community groups in the South East to deliver a series of outreach activities related to disability history
o Organise a series of end of project celebration events within LCD services and/or in the local community
o Prepare heritage material to be uploaded to a heritage website including scanning documents and managing digital assets
o Working with the Project Officer and Archivist to oversee a digitisation project and the creation of a new heritage website
• Responsibility for the project budget including financial reporting on a regular basis
• Ensure LCD complies with the Heritage Lottery Fund and other funders/donors’ grant conditions in delivering outcomes, record keeping and reporting
• Publicise the project and website, both inside and outside of LCD and act as main point for information about the project. This will involve working with the Communications Team and Marketing Team
• Develop appropriate evaluation and monitoring procedures and deliver an end of project evaluation report


PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Qualifications

• Educated to degree level or equivalent


Essential Other

• Proven experience of managing successful projects involving numerous work streams, delivering them on time and to budget
• Substantial practical experience of planning, delivering and evaluating community based projects, preferably including participants with a wide range of abilities
• Experience of recording oral histories
• Experience of managing volunteers
• Prior experience of financial reporting
• Interest in heritage projects and/or disability rights movement
• Willingness to travel on a regular basis within Kent, Surrey and East Sussex
• Willingness to undertake enhanced CRB check


Desirable Requirements

• Project management qualification
• Social media and marketing skills
• Experience of using video editing software
• Good knowledge and understanding of digitisation projects

• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Excellent stakeholder management skills including internal and external stakeholders
• Excellent budget management skills
• Ability to work on own initiative and manage own time effectively
• Organised and proactive approach to tasks
• A polite and helpful manner when dealing with colleagues and visitors
• Investigate and resolve problems in consultation with appropriate staff
• Ability to interpret archive material for a diverse audience and inspire engagement
• Ability to work flexibly with multiple stakeholders to achieve project goals
• Ability to use modern recording equipment including digital cameras and video cameras
• Good level of overall IT competency, familiar with standard IT concepts, software and databases
• Good understanding of websites and digital media
