UKMap Digitising Technician
Permanent Positions – The GeoInformation Group, Cambridge, CB21 4NW, UK
Full Time (37-hour week) Salary:
Range Starting £22 – 24.5k p.a.
Due to the growth of UKMap, the large scale mapping suite, The GeoInformation Group is looking to expand its team. We are seeking to recruit a recent graduate to work alongside the existing UKMap team; helping to maintain the map databases, providing support to the management team and offering technical solutions where necessary.
Candidates should have a reasonable level of GIS knowledge, in both practical terms and fundamentals. As such, a working knowledge of ArcMap is essential, and some awareness of FME is desirable.

Job Purpose:
The position will strengthen the existing team, principally ensuring the currency of the UKMap product is maintained. The work will involve identification of change against recent high resolution aerial surveys through to entity and attribution changes where required.
In addition, to maintaining the mapping databases, the role is expected to provide support to the management team and offer technical solutions where possible.
The role may require, at times, some outside survey work. Candidates must therefore be spatially aware and confident in navigating using topographic maps. This role will require a combination of team and independent working.
In-house training will be provided, with opportunities to develop interpersonal and technical skills through working in a high functioning team.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
Degree qualified, preferably in a related geography/GIS discipline.
Strong IT Skills – using databases from an end-user and production perspective.
Strong GIS Skills – experience with desktop GIS, preferably ESRI.
Knowledge or experience of using and interpreting aerial imagery.
Ability to work co-operatively, as part of a team.
Good people skills, a positive attitude and the ability to listen and provide feedback.
Keen and self-motivated
Methodical, neat, fast and accurate worker, with a good level of attention to detail
