You will need to be fully proficient at using text recognition software packages, document layout analysis software, and other visual analysis software that might be required in order to produce the below outputs. Requested software will be provided. If you are not able to use such software to survey the entire collection of Misty you should be prepared to put forward a clear plan of how you would approach this project manually using a meaningful sample group.

Outputs required at end of project:

· Table and graph or other representation of quantitative data that summarises the most common page layouts and panel shapes used in the comic.

· Table and graph or other representation of quantitative data relating to common language features, e.g. most-used words and phrases; emphasized words and so forth.

· Table and graph or other representation of quantitative data reflecting the various story 'types' (based on my own annotations/notes on story content).

· Clear visual and tabular representations of this information.

You will also be encouraged to:

· Co-present on the project with myself at a national conference, if desired.

Person specification and qualifications:

Essential:

- Excellent knowledge of relevant software (e.g. document layout analysis software, text recognition software, database and spreadsheets).

- Able to take initiative in devising data collection and representation strategies as required.

- Experience with content analysis.

- Experience of archival research or working on a project of this type.

-

Desired:

- An interest or background in comics studies.
